Juliana Perez-Mitchell

Independent Strategic Creative Director

About Juliana

Juliana is based in Chicago's Lincoln Park and brings a wealth of experience from top-tier design agencies across the Midwest & East coast. A Miami University graduate with a BFA in Graphic Design, she’s known for her conceptual and strategic approach to design, thriving in environments that prioritize process and collaboration. Juliana’s unique method blends innovation and design to both launch new brands and refresh existing ones.

Originally from Costa Rica, Juliana’s upbringing was shaped by a deep connection to sculpture and food science. Her early exposure to the consumer goods industry, including companies like Kellogg's and Nestlé, introduced her to “mystery food” — unbranded, top-secret products. Juliana would taste these products and imagine how they could be named, packaged, and marketed. This hands-on experience with sensory details sparked her passion for making products, companies, and designs better.

Her focus on the consumer experience is at the heart of everything she does, using design principles and psychology to create authentic, emotional connections. Juliana is a designer who deeply cares about how people interact with and perceive the work she creates. Perez Mitchell Design, LLC. can work with you remotely or from time to time meet in the office, or a coffee house.

TESTIMONIALS

Recently someone asked me an interesting question, “What would people who have worked with you say you are like?” so i asked them myself…

Juliana is very creative and an adept problem solver. She’s always looking for more effective ways of doing things. Her creative process is strong, and her sketching and concepting skills are top-notch. Drawing from her varied experience, she regularly shares her knowledge and pursues opportunities to learn new skills. She had an opportunity to flex her art direction skills as she aligned our social media agency with our brand standards and creative vision. The result was greatly improved social media content. She often goes above and beyond the project brief, seeking to make everything that she works on as great as it can be.
— Jill Sanchez, Current Senior Designer Tampico Bev.
Juliana conceptualized and executed clear and compelling marketing materials for various National accounts at Tampico.

Our digital ads for the launch of Tetra juice boxes surpassed benchmark engagement rates and our in-store POS displays for single serve items at CVS have received very positive feedback because of the clear, simple and vibrant design.

Juliana understands brand guardrails and works effectively to design within them while pushing beyond.
— Justin Kawa, National Accounts Tampico Bev.
I had the privilege of working with Juliana while I led social media for the Mike’s Hard Lemonade Company which included brands like White Claw, Mikes Hard Lemonade, Cayman Jack and more. Juliana worked across all brands, leading much of the creative - from graphic design to photography and creative directing social and digital content. Juliana is fantastic at wearing many hats while working in a fast paced enviornment, wheather leading shoots of content we needed to turn around in less than 24 hours, or planning content for social media calendar across multiple brands. I’d recommend her as a creative and graphic designer to anyone looking for someone who’s incredibly talented, passionate and an enthusiastic addition to their team.
— Maya McDonald, Current Director of PR, Molson Coors
Juliana directed very involved design projects for medical devices that I managed. Juliana displayed a quick and intuitive command of our design objectives, and drew from multiple sources of inspiration to allow us to consider meaningfully distinct alternative design approaches. In discussing the project with Juliana, she helped to clarify and refine our messaging, and even to materially improve the product itself through the ideas that she offered around ease-of-use. It is clear that Juli highly values the quality of both her work and her client’s experience.

I had Juliana do some exploratory work around editorial design for a major client here at LPK. The basis of the idea was that we wanted the new design system (corporate identity) to feel like Fast Company. Smart pithy information in small bites that would allow audiences to get information quickly without working. We also wanted the design system to have a expert quality. I asked Juliana to do some exploring on what this could look like with only the Brandmark to go with. She was smart and thorough about how she approached the task and her work was right on target. She engaged me with questions, builds and she pushed ideas. She was a joy to work with and was able to bring work to the table that has influenced all the work we have done for the client since (which is a lot).

I also had the chance to work with her on a new brand identity system and what really impressed me was her research into the subject and then how she applied that knowledge to the work. She used personal connections to better understand the industry. She did a huge breadth of sketching that showed her reach and ability to think past that “one idea”. Then she continued to push her design work with every critique. I was very impressed with her work, her responsiveness to feedback and her thorough approach to design.

She is a creative, positive team player who will kill herself working on projects not only because it’s her passion but also because she wants the best for the company she works for and the client.
— Betty Bone, previous Senior Designer, LPK
Juliana is filled with a passion for design I have seen only a few times in my career. Her talents are not limited to a love for design, she is a true craftsman. Her design aesthetic is wonderful and shows a maturity beyond her years.
